Meta Quest 2 is a fully explorable virtual world with complete freedom of movement and action, built in Unreal Engine 4. The game will feature hundreds of exciting quests, numerous challenges and give players the chance to take over an entire city from within VR.

Cities: VR is a new single player game that was announced at the Game Awards. The game will launch on the Meta Quest 2 next, and it will be free to everyone who owns Cities: Skylines.

Fast Travel Games, the publisher and developer, today unveiled Cities: VR, confirming that the game would be released in Spring 2022 on the Meta Quest 2 platform. The game takes Cities: Skylines’ city-building experience and puts it into virtual reality for the first time.

Cities: VR allows users to construct and govern metropolitan areas from a fresh viewpoint while keeping the basic gameplay of Skylines. You’ll need to lay out communities, construct buildings, control traffic, and ensure that all of your inhabitants’ requirements are met.

Cities: VR promises a “unparalleled degree of presence, immersion, and hands-on gameplay” in which you can “see your skyscraper grow from an enormous bird’s eye perspective, or become a part of your creation and witness your city come alive from the streets,” according to the developers.

The game will also come with a tutorial that will walk players through the fundamentals of developing their city from a different viewpoint utilizing the “easy-to-control technology” in the game.

“It’s an honor to bring the Cities: Skylines brand to VR,” stated Creative Director Erik Odeldahl.

“We couldn’t wait to start on this IP since the city-building genre has a lot of promise in the VR industry.” We’ve put a lot of time, effort, and study into bringing Cities: Skylines to VR in a manner that’s both friendly for newcomers and a fresh challenge for seasoned City-builders. We’re excited to see what the players come up with!”

The game aspires to be an excellent starting point for new players while also appealing to veterans who have previously established a couple of metropolises on PC or console.

After licensing the IP from publisher Paradox Interactive, Fast Travel Games now handles both publication and development.

Cities: VR is set to debut on the Meta Quest 2 in Spring 2022, but the developer says it “will have more to discuss on possibly more platforms later.” Below is a trailer for the game’s announcement.
